Cannon Family Charitable Trust Cross-Sector Internship Program
The Cannon Family Charitable Trust Cross-Sector Internship Program supports a distinctive experiential learning initiative within the Luther Hodges Scholars (LHS) Program at UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School. The program prepares highly motivated undergraduate business students to address complex economic and societal challenges through collaboration across business, government, academia, and the nonprofit sector.
Through curated, cohort-based summer internships, scholars work alongside professionals, nonprofit leaders, researchers, and community partners on projects related to economic development, education, healthcare, sustainability, workforce development, housing, and community well-being. Placements are immersive, project-based, and intentionally designed to connect business knowledge with public impact.
By investing in experiential learning, the Cannon Family Charitable Trust is helping develop the next generation of collaborative, purpose-driven leaders.

In partnership with organizations such as Truist Foundation, Children’s Home Society, and other mission-driven institutions, scholars gain hands-on professional experience, mentorship, and exposure to cross-sector leadership in action. In addition to strengthening technical business skills in areas such as data analysis, marketing, and financial accounting, students are coached in developing critical thinking, cultural competency, negotiation, active listening, and ethical decision-making skills essential for effective leadership in today’s interconnected world.
The program also includes structured reflection, leadership development, and professional coaching designed to help students grow not only as professionals but as thoughtful leaders committed to creating positive impact in their communities and beyond.
